Motion Graphics for Queensclif Historical Museam

2026-6

Motion graphics created for the Museam to display beach life in the 70s. The video encapsulates the energy and excitement of the 1970s to accomodate an exhbition with 1970s memorabilia.

Aesthetically, the 70s was a time of an emergence of flamboyant, vibrant, individualistic fashion, created through pulsating, maximal and exciting patterns. The mindset consisted of a newfound sense of play and curiosity for the world around you, a time for a brilliant and fun holiday in a moment where freedom was all the buzz. And that buzz, was the buzz of liberation, self-expression and pure fun. In my animation, I tie these energies into the nature of Queensclif/ Point Londsdale (Wadawurrung Country). I depict the 70’s spirit to be so contagious, it awakens the wildlife and scenery in a wave of psychedelic dreaming. Everything is feeding off each other, blending into each other and creating one another. The environment evokes a childlike sense of play and wondering, exploring through pattern and colour in nature through the mindset of the time. Nature is full of patterns, and I activate this concept by applying 70s inspired pattern making to nature. Patterns are ubiquitous and never-ending therefore elucidating to the concept of infinity and endless possibilities, the before- mentioned buzz of the 70s. I transform local creatures, the Leathery Forkweed, the Sand Flathead, the Vermillion Biscuit Star and the Greenlip Abalone, to create a site-specific animation. The music is a laid back, surf rock tune framing the atmosphere as a fun, inviting day at the beach.
